Incredible Picnic in Mabou

The Incredible Picnic in Mabou takes place at the Mabou Arena close to the Mabou Farmers Market. The Farmers' Market is normally open from 11 am to 2 pm every Sunday, June to Thanksgiving.

There will be many  kinds of prepared food made with local products for sale at the Incredible Picnic. These include:

  • Oysters on the half shell, BBQ'd oysters and and other
  • delicious oyster dishes from the Mabou Harbour Shellfish Producers
  • AssociationSteamed mussels from Cape North Mussels. (These mussels have a high meat count)Haus
  • Treuburg from Port Hood will be providing German cuisine. Flammkuchen
  • (it is like slices of pizza), smoked salmon Sandwiches, applestrudel
  • and bretzels (pretzels)Tasty, freshly-cooked organic sausages and burgers from Forever Green Organic Farm near Afton, Antigonish CountyMichelle's baked goods made with locally-picked fruits from Cape Breton and Speerville flour from the Maritimes.
  • Elizabeth's  blueberry muffins and slices of apple pie made from local fruit Cape Breton Tea and coffee served up by our local 4H ClubHerbal tea made from fresh herbs in season

What is available at the Mabou Farmers' Market?

  • If you decide to bring your own picnic basket of local food  from home, don't forget to buy fresh vegetables at the Mabou Farmers Market to eat with your meal.
  • Fresh-squeezed wild blueberry juice and wild blueberries are available from Wild and Blue Farms inside the Mabou Farmers' Market, or you can buy high-bush blueberries from Lake Ainslie.
  • At the Farmers Market, sample wine from two wineries - one organic wine from Cape Breton and one wine from the mainland.
  • As usual you can eat freshly-cooked organic sausages and burgers from Forever Green Organic Farm.
  • Buy and enjoy baked goods and bread, freshly made by several of our Market vendor. Some of our vendors use Speerville flour from the Maritimes and locally-picked fruit.
  • Buy Jams, jellies, preserves and organic honey at the Farmers Market.

There are also beautiful and functional crafts available for sale at the Mabou Farmers' Market. Look out for Christmas and birthday gifts.

Along with the great food, there are going to be interesting and creative activities for the whole family including:  Demonstrations of tai chiA variety of musicians of all agesUnspun Heroes and SpinThrifts who will be demonstrating spinning and knitting and weaving

There is no charge for any of the events outside as these people are all local volunteers.
